Bruno Walpoth is considered one of the most important Italian contemporary sculptors. He was born in Gröden, in northern Italy. At the age of 14, he began to work as an apprentice at a local famous woodcarving workshop, and then admitted to the Munich Academy of Fine Arts in Germany, where he studied with the German sculptor Hans Landena.

Before the completion of the works we saw today, the artist has experienced inner struggles again and again. Leaving out of the traditional Gröden Valley, passing through Vienna and Munich, and finally returning to his own heart, he created this unique art form that we see today. With his superb sculptural language, he gave these wood objects emotion and soul, and attracted the audience to stop in front of his works. These works, which do not depend on the environment but have a silent sense of existence, may also be related to the artist’s experience in religious sculpture. It is his unique and profound experience that gives these ordinary people the opportunity to be watched. Since 1982, Bruno Walpoth has exhibited more than 60 times in various countries around the world, and has received extensive attention from the art world.

This exhibition is the first solo exhibition of Bruno Walpoth in China and has more than 30 works in total. It includes not only some new works that Bruno created only for this exhibition, but also the paintings, bronze and papercarving works that were rarely showed in previous solo exhibitions. The exhibition was held in Zhejiang Art Museum from 29, November, 2018 to 27, February, 2019, and received a warm social response. As the second stop of the exhibitionin China, the Central Academy of Fine Arts will surely provide Beijing audience with a rare opportunity to fully understand this wood carving masters and contact with Western figurative art further.
