Highlights of the Permanent Collection of GAM – Torino: the first Italian public collection of modern art, which opened in 1863. The collections currently comprise over 50,000 works including paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs in addition to an extensive collection of drawings and engravings and art films and videos.

With its collection of 45,000 works spanning the period from the nineteenth century to the present day and comprising paintings, sculptures, works on paper, installations, videos and photographs, GAM provides its audience with a wealth of events ranging from major exhibitions of Italian and international artists to contemporary research dedicated to young visitors. This dynamic museum curates and designs original projects, lectures and meetings and has developed partnerships with some of the world’s most important museums and institutions.

Riccardo Passoni has been appointed as Director of GAM-Torino in May 2018 where, since 1999, he was Head of the Modern Art Collection and Deputy Director. Art Historian, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, curator and writer, he was awarded a PhD in History and Criticism of Artistic and Environmental Heritage. He is specialised in Mediaeval Art – from 2015 to 2018 e was Director of the Borgo Medievale (Gothic Revival) in Turin and in the Italian and International Art of the Twentieth Century.
