Miriam Mirolla:
“When I was first introduced by Hsingyuan to Xu Bing and interviewed him in his studio in January 2018, it was natural to start a deep conversation with him about the theories and purposes of art, about the affinities between East and West, about the future of artistic and scientific research.
In those months I was scrupulously treating the publication of the book “The art that anticipates the future”, written in Italian and in Chinese with the contribution of some crucial figures: Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, Italian ambassador in China and a few days ago appointed Headof Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, particularly sensitive to theissue of creativity and innovation; Sergio Lombardo, historical artist, founder of the Eventualist Theory, unquestionable leader of the Italian artistic avant-garde, and Xu Bing himself, whom I consider a key artist forunder standing the extraordinary phenomenon of evolution of contemporary Chinese artistic culture based on ancient and evolutionary tracks of western art.
From that memorable meeting with Xu Bing, an interview started (which is now being published inanother book of mine “Art from 1945 to today”, dedicated to students and the Chinese public).
