YOU AND ME MAKES THREE
Recognised as one of the founder and key member of the Arte Povera movement, Il Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto is returning to China after ten years for a second solo exhibition in Beijing at Galleria Continua.
For this occasion the Italian Institute of Culture – Italian Embassy, in cooperation with Galleria Continua and CAFAM are organising an Artist Talk entitled “Youand me makes three”, which will be held in the main Auditorium of the CAFA Art Museum. The artist will present his philosophy related to a“Third Paradise” (paradise from the Ancient Persian means “protected garden”), addressing to all forms of artifice created by our modern societies distancing humans from a full integration with nature, the third paradise is the concept – a phase of humanity – realised as a balanced connection between artifice and nature.”
BIO
Michelangelo Pistoletto was born in Biella in 1933 and started his first exhibitions right from 1955. In 1961, he became internationally acclaimed with his first series of Mirror Paintings which incorporate the viewer and real time into the work directly, thus providing the foundation of Pistoletto’s oeuvre and furthermore the birth of Arte Povera, for which Pistoletto was an animating force and key protagonist. During the nineties, with Project Art and his creations in Biella of Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto and the University of Ideas, he brought art into active relation with diverse spheres of society with the aim of inspiring and producing responsible social change. Recipient in 2003 of the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Lifelong Achievement and of the Praemium Imperiale for painting in Tokyo in 2013, Il Maestro is already considered as a key figure in the Art History. This legend of contemporary art is still active today and continues to push the boundaries of art after more than 2,200 exhibitions along his career such as recently: ‘One and One makes Three’ (2017), Evento Collaterale della 57. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – La Biennale di Venezia, Abbazia di San Giorgio ; ‘Michelangelo Pistoletto’ (2016), Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, UK; ‘Il Terzo Paradiso’ (2014), Palais des Nation, Genève, Switzerland and Council of the European Union, Bruxelles, Belgium ; and is part of the greatest collections: Neue Nationalgalerie (Berlin), Tate Modern (London), LACMA (Los Angeles), Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Solomon R.
